Police in san fransisco Kill Black 19 Year Old

A 19-year-old man who was shot by police Saturday afternoon in the Bayview has died.

The suspect, who was shot by two officers after allegedly turning and firing at the cops, was running from police after failing to provide a valid Muni fare died. A spokeswoman for Supervisor Malia Cohen, who represents the Bayview district, said she received confirmation from San Francisco General Hospital that the suspect died. Police said the man died at 7:01 p.m.

The man was shot near the Muni stop at Third Street and Oakdale Avenue, police Sgt. Michael Andraychak said. The suspect was taken to San Francisco General Hospital with life-threatening injuries. Witnesses said approximately seven shots were fired and the man was struck in the neck.

Neither officer was injured.

“My heart goes out to the family as they grieve the loss of their loved one,” Cohen said in a released statement. “Today’s shooting is under ongoing Police investigation, and I urge anyone with any information to notify SFPD immediately. I intend to review the results of the internal investigation from the Police Department to ensure Department protocol was followed.”

This is the second transit-related shooting in The City in two weeks. On July 3, BART police officers shot and killed Charles Hill, who allegedly was drunk and wielding a broken bottle and one or two knives on the platform at the Civic Center station.

In Saturday’s incident, the two officers were conducting Muni fare inspections on a T-Third Street light-rail train when they detained the suspect on the platform at Third and Oakdale. The man bolted from the platform and fired back on the two officers, Andraychak said. That is when the cops shot at the suspect, with one officer kneeling down to take aim, according to one witness.

“Information is still preliminary, but we believe that during the foot pursuit, the suspect fired at the uniformed officers,” Andraychak said.

Just one problem with this account of the incident: eyewitnesses on the scene said the man had already surrendered when he was shot. And in graphic video footage captured immediately after the shooting, which can be seen here, bystanders can be heard demanding to be shown the victim’s gun, which isn’t visible.

Three officers involved in this shooting were White, while one was Hispanic. Following the shooting, which happened in a predominantly Black neighborhood, one-time went into full riot gear/SWAT mode to deal with the citizens.
