Activists Want “Urban” Memorial Day Festivities Kicked Off South Beach... OH NO BLACK PEOPLE JUST WANT TO HAVE FUN

Dang it! Why can’t “we” collectively go to the same out-of-town destination and not collectively show our a**es???

First, Black College Reunion got kicked off out of Daytona Beach. Then BET’s Spring Bling was cancelled after 13 years and a couple of venue changes. And now, thanks to a couple of knuckle heads who still haven’t accepted that “Belly” wasn’t based on real life, they want to kick “us” off of South Beach for Memorial Day Weekend too.

For the past 10 years, the Art Deco District on South Beach has turned into a hip-hop street party during Memorial Day weekend, with a bulked up police presence monitoring hundreds of thousands of young revelers.

Monday’s early morning shootings, which resulted in one dead, four bystanders hit by stray bullets and three police officers injured, has renewed a call to replace the hip-hop themed festival with a less rowdy event — or do away with it altogether.

“There isn’t a residential street in South Beach not affected by tons of garbage, crime to our vehicles, excessive noise 24 hours a day, and simply a lack of respect for our community, citizens and property,” activist Herb Sosa wrote in an open letter to the Miami Beach City Commission. “Make the difficult but correct decision to put an end to Urban Weekend in Miami Beach.”

On Facebook, Miami Beach Commissioner Jerry Libbin supported a Memorial Day weekend curfew, which he said was proposed by City Manager Jorge Gonzalez.

“I think we need to take back the city for the residents,” said Libbin, who is also president and CEO of the Miami Beach Chamber of Commerce. “It’s just not right that people live in fear.”

After hearing about Monday’s shootings, Miami Beach resident Aaron Sugarman wrote a letter to the Miami Beach mayor and commissioners, pitching a move to replace the hip-hop themed festival with a less rowdy event featuring jazz and blues music.

At police headquarters Monday morning, Libbin also suggested the city needs to rethink the way it handles Memorial Day weekend.

He said officials should consider backing an old proposal, which has been resurrected over the last year, to create a multi-cultural concert weekend on the beach.

Governed by gangs - so what?

As far as I am concerned, the surprise of the Wikileaks revelations is not the biggest problem besetting our country. Even more profound than the day-to-day leaks is the unbelievable complacency of the Jamaican people. It is just amazing that the more we learn about the devious and corrupt practices of our politicians on both sides of the fence is the more complacent and apathetic we become.
I'm not sure that there is any place on Planet Earth, not even the countries with dictatorships (interestingly enough, those are now being toppled by people power), where the citizens remain so incredibly passive in the face of blatant governmental malfeasance and the resultant levels of economic and social decay.
It seems to me that the Americans must be wondering whether we have lost our minds. They must be asking themselves, "How is it that we have been able to disclose so much wrong within the Jamaican body politic, yet nothing is being done to bring anybody to book or to fix the problem?" It is clear to me that the US must be continually hard-pressed to find people inside the political arena that are clean - hence the Peter Phillips' dilemma. What must be even more disappointing to the Americans is that they must be equally hard-pressed to find people with integrity within the Jamaican private sector as well.
The former US Ambassador Sue Cobb seemed to have been keenly aware of the problem. In a speech given in 2003, "Combatting Corruption: Towards a New Era of Accountability", Cobb emphasised, "Until the cost of being corrupt outweighs the benefit, many people would simply find no reason to stop. An important key to fighting corruption, therefore, is to identify those who are engaged in corruption and ensure that they are exposed and punished."
She went on to add, "Another key in the fight against corruption - as you know - is the private sector. Public sector officials - by and large aren't going around bribing each other, so it is vital that the private sector understand the costs of corruption - the economic costs as well as the personal costs - and refuse to encourage it, accept it, or wink at it."
The former ambassador continued, "Jamaica has taken a major step in this regard with the recent passage of the Access to Information Act, which allows citizens to see information on how government decisions are made and will help ensure that those decisions are based on objective criteria. But the mere passage of such an act is insufficient if the rights it grants are not used to thwart corruption. And that is the challenge that is laid before Jamaicans - to actively monitor - to be the watchdog against corruption. So the question is, now that the tool has been created will it actually be used? Will people in this room feel safe enough to stand up, speak out, and help in the process?" Asserted Cobb, "Identifying corruption in government is not very useful if there is no mechanism to punish the corrupt."
Sue Cobb was not unaware of the hypocrisy of her comments. After stating the following, "But of course the US can only do so much - at some point the fight against corruption has to come from within," she added, "Now you may be sitting there thinking, Well this is well and good, but why is an American lecturing us on corruption when we only need to turn on our televisions to see scandal after scandal in America? That's certainly a reasonable criticism. America has had its fair share of corrupt businesses, government leaders and dirty money..." However, she added,
"Consider the following: America triumphs over corruption. Because we do not have parliamentary immunity, Ohio Congressman James Traficant, was tried, convicted and expelled from Congress... and because we have protection for whistleblowers, a former Speaker of the State of Florida Senate was this month sent to jail - because a concerned citizen brought his illegal activities to light."
Cobb's speech and American hypocrisy aside, what about our own sense of decency and integrity as Jamaicans? What are our response and our responsibility to stamp out corruption? Long before interests in the media began describing the two main political parties as "gangs", every Jamaican was aware that we have been governed for a long time by political leaders that have had shady dealings and associations. We have all been aware of the deep levels of corruption inside government and throughout the private sector, but we have done nothing about it.
I wish to remind all of us that were it not for Uncle Sam, the Dudus Coke empire which spanned both the PNP and JLP administrations would be perfectly intact today, ingratiating its powerful friends and wreaking murderous havoc on young men, women and defenceless children. It is interesting that since Dudus's removal, crime has fallen dramatically. It goes to show how deep and how wide the drug lord's sphere of influence was inside and outside of Jamaica.
In functioning democracies, a mere hint of corruption of a political leader would result in prosecutorial procedures. Not in Jamaica. The layers of lies, half-truths, the killings in Tivoli Gardens, and clear-cut connections associated with the Dudus Coke/Manatt affair have not resulted in anybody being fingered for accountability, let alone prosecuted. Every day the grinding wheel of corruption keeps turning while the country looks on. If in fact Jamaica is being run by two gangs, the question is, "So what?"

Flood Update

This thing is going to last a long time...

As of 4:30 PM Tuesday, here is the Garrison release schedule.

Planned releases are subject to change based on changing reservoir and river conditions:

Wednesday AM - 92,500 cfs
Wednesday PM - 100,000 cfs
Note: Controlled Spillway Releases Start Wed.

Thursday AM - 105,000 cfs
Thursday PM - 110,000 cfs

Friday - 115,000 CFS

Saturday Hold At 115,000

Mid June, going to 150,000 cfs

At 150,000 cfs the river stage at Bismarck is forecast to be at 20.6 feet, or 4.69` higher than it is right now. Plan for a 1 foot buffer on all dikes according to officials.

They say they will have to use the spillway gates to release all this water, but it WILL be controlled. The spillway has never been used since the dam opened back in the 1950s.

And our friends up north in Minot are having trouble too.

Gangsta's Paradise - Ninjaman. LOL OLD CLIP OF THE WEEK

A Pause From The Flood

It is still Memorial Day...

I have been busy, but I won't ever forget.

More Flooding

It may or may not be of interest to some...
I am not trying to compare other disasters, the folks in Joplin had very little warning of the nightmare that occurred there. The folks in Fargo go through this every year...It happened on the Mississippi earlier.
Bismarck to my knowledge has not seen this since 1952, the year before the Garrison Dam was finished.
This water level is at 80,000 cfs coming out of the dam, 150,000 cfs is a shocking number to me.

As We Remember This Day

I find as I get older this day tears at me a little more. So many
have given the ultimate price for our freedom, and for this I
love them all. As I write this I think of those brave brave men
and women so unselfishly giving to this country and all its
people the chance to be great with their lives.

Pictured here is a Memorial from my generation.
It has a special meaning to me, as my best friend
growing up is on that wall. Today we remember our
fallen heroes from all wars, and
GOD BLESS THEM ALL!

How do you keep a man?

How do you keep a man? The Ratchet answer would be to give him the best ass he’s ever had. But those who think that are single and currently figuring out what dress to wear to the club this weekend. Women who have locked down men, and I’m not talking about 6 months, I’m talking years, those women brought something to the table much more powerful than good sex.

You think you’re pretty, you think you’re smart, I bet you think you’re the most interesting woman on the planet right? But how do men view you? I’m not talking about does he turn and look when you walk by, let’s go deeper than the physical bullshit girls use as a crutch. Does he think you’re smart? Does he find you interesting? Are you classy in his mind or just another basic broad he’s ran through? Take a moment to think about the last dude you were seriously involved with. What did he like most about you? If it was something like “My smile” or “The way I rode it” you have a serious problem. Are you the type of woman he can spend all day talking to and has a connection deeper than the physical attraction or are you simply Pussy? And by Pussy I mean your only value to that man is to satisfy his physical needs. Your job is to make him cum. Pussy isn't just the hoe or the slut, it's also the girlfriend who we have no intention of marrying or keeping around past a year. Men love pussy, but we do not marry Pussy. A man may show Pussy off to his friends. He might buy Pussy gifts. Occasionally Pussy gets to come out of the house and get treated to dinner. Pussy even gets pregnant and becomes the Baby Mama. But he NEVER EVER marries Pussy. All men see women as Pussy initially, but after a few conversations we can decide if she’s more.

A Man Walks Into A Bar ....

A man walks into a bar, notices a very large jar on the counter,
and sees that it's filled to the brim with $10 bills. He guesses
there must be at least ten thousand dollars in it. He approaches
the bartender and asks, "What's with the money in the jar?"

"Well..., you pay $10, and if you pass three tests, you get all the
money in the jar and the keys to a brand new Lexus."

The man certainly isn't going to pass this up, so he asks, "What
are the three tests?"

"You gotta pay first," says the bartender, "those are the rules."

So, after thinking it over a while, the man gives the bartender
$10 which he stuffs into the jar.

"Okay," says the bartender, "here's what you need to do:

First - You have to drink a whole quart of tequila, in 60 seconds
or less, and you can't make a face while doing it."

"Second - There's a pit bull chained in the back with a bad tooth.
You have to remove that tooth with your bare hands."

"Third - There's a 90-year old lady upstairs who's never had sex.
You have to take care of that problem."

The man is stunned! "I know I paid my $10 -- but I'm not an
idiot! I won't do it! You'd have to be nuts to drink a quart of
tequila and then do all those other things!"

"Your call," says the bartender, "but, your money stays where it is."

As time goes on, the man has a few more drinks and finally says,
"Where's the damn tequila?!"

He grabs the bottle with both hands and drinks it as fast as he can.
Tears stream down both cheeks -- but he doesn't make a face --
and he drinks it in 58 seconds!

Next, he staggers out the back door where he sees the pit bull
chained to a pole. Soon, the people inside the bar hear loud
growling, screaming, and sounds of a terrible fight -- then
nothing but silence!

Just when they think that the man surely must be dead, he
staggers back into the bar. His clothes are ripped to shreds
and he's bleeding from bites and gashes all over his body.
He drunkenly says, "Now..., where's that old woman with
the bad tooth?"

Moral: NEVER DRINK TEQUILA IF YOUR PIT BULL
HAS A BAD TOOTH!

Going Sandbagging (Updated)

Some folks need help.
This is what is headed this way...

Be back later.
Update:
Big flood headed this way, that clip does not do justice to what is headed here. The corp of engineers say they need to double the release of that dam and will open those spillway gates for the first time since the dam was built. Many homes are going under. I will try to post some picture tomorrow.

Great Weekend

An older, white haired man walked into a jewelry store this past
Friday evening with a beautiful much younger gal at his side.
He told the jeweler he was looking for a special ring for his
girlfriend.  The jeweler looked through his stock and brought
out a $5,000 ring.

The old man said, 'No, I'd like to see something more special.'

At that statement, the jeweler went to his special stock and
brought another ring over.  'Here's a stunning ring at only
$40,000 the jeweler said.  The lady's eyes sparkled and her
whole body trembled with excitement.  The old man seeing
this said, 'We'll take it.'

The jeweler asked how payment would be made and the old
man stated, 'by check’.  I know you need to make sure my check
is good, so I'll write it now and you can call the bank Monday to
verify the funds and I'll pick the ring up Monday afternoon.'

On Monday morning, the jeweler angrily phoned the old man
and said 'There's no money in that account.'

'I know,' said the old man, 'But let me tell you about
MY GREAT WEEKEND!'

Usain Bolt wins 100m in 9.91 seconds at the Golden Gala in Rome today.

Jamaican sprinter and world record holder Usain Bolt claimed the 100 metres while fellow compatriot, Asafa Powell placed second at the star-studded Golden Gala in Rome today.

Powell, who had a good start clocked 9.93 seconds, while Bolt who got off to a slow start, pulled from behind until he was in front, clocking in at 9.91 seconds.

Two other Jamaicans, Mario Forythe placed seventh in 10.21 seconds while Lerone Clarke placed eighth in 10.31.

The triple Olympic and world champion had not competed since he was beaten by Tyson Gay in Stockholm last August, and had to cut his season short because of problems with his back and Achilles' tendon.

Bolt has now beaten Powell in nine of their 10 meets.

Powell's only win was in Stockholm in 2008.

100 Year Flood Hits Home

Above average snowpack in Montana and heavy rains in the western part of the state have caused a problem in Bismarck N.D.

For those keeping score, I live in Bismarck.

My home is safe, but daughter and son and law(and the 2 grand kids) live right off the river and no doubt will be evacuated (not their house pictured).
The big Lake Sakakawea was running so low 4 years ago new access had to be built for boating. At the time it was said it would take 20 years of above average snow and rain to fill it back up. In just 3 years the lake is just shy of going over the top of Garrison Dam.
To my knowledge the Missouri river has never flooded in Bismarck(with the exception of an ice jam problem 2 years ago) since the Garrison Dam was built in 1953...

Uh, with a catch...
But there’s a catch. The quality of the jobs the U.S. is creating right now in terms of pay, benefits, hours, and skills leaves a lot to be desired. The problem is not only the depth of the recession and the sluggishness of the recovery. It also reflects the changing structure of the U.S. economy, as more manufacturing operations shift to overseas locations, while service businesses, which often pay much less, take a more dominant role in job creation.
The tax code in this country encourages companies to manufacture overseas, couple that with overpaid union wages and we have a McDonald's economy. Not to disparage Mickey D's, I personally  dine there on occasion, but those jobs are not meant to sustain a economy.

drop his trousers, revealing the smallest male

It's length and width was almost identical to a

Unable to control herself, the nurse tried to stop

laughing at the fact that she was laughing.
Feeling very bad that she had laughed at the man's

"I am so sorry," she said. "I don't know what came

"It's swollen," Fred replied.

Good Woman Or Dumb Bitch?

If you love your boyfriend, how much shit are you willing to put up with? Most women proclaim automatically that they would drop a man in a minute if he did her wrong. “I wish he would blah blah blah” those types of threats are emptier than Toni Braxton’s bank account. Women take “The Title” serious. They change Facebook statuses, they find excuses to call ex- boyfriends so they can rub it in; they have to tell everyone they know because it’s a big deal to find love. The double edge sword is that once you tell everyone you’re together you have to deal with everyone asking what happened when you break up. Besides the obvious “but I love him” excuse I think fear of failure is the second reason women stay with their asshole boyfriends longer than they should. Women don’t want to admit that it didn’t work out. I could break up with a girl and not think twice about how it makes me look. More than likely only four people breathing knew she was my chick anyway. Men don’t spread the word when they give a girl the title, if someone asks you might tell them, but we don’t scream it to the heavens like women do. Pop quiz hot shot: Tony broke your heart but you love him, what do you do? Do you keep putting up with him or do you throw in the towel and admit that you didn’t pick the right man.

OLD CLIP OF THE THE DAY, BRITISH JAMAICAN VS AMERICAN JAMAICAN.

Amnesty Demands Justice For Tivoli Victims

International human-rights group, Amnesty International, has called for Jamaican authorities to bring to justice those responsible for human-rights violations, including the killing of 74 people in Kingston, during a state of emergency imposed last May in an operation to arrest former Tivoli strongman Christopher 'Dudus" Coke.

In its latest report, 'Jamaica: A Long Road to Justice? Human Rights Violations under the State of Emergency' released today, the London-based group said despite some positive steps, the authorities have failed to prosecute anyone for the killings, consequently supporting local calls for a full commission of inquiry.

"An independent commission of inquiry must be established in order to ensure that all human-rights violations committed in Tivoli last year do not go unpunished like so many others in Jamaica," the human-rights watchdog noted.

details of report

In addition to unlawful killings, the 40-page report also cited enforced disappearances and arbitrary arrests, as allegations of violations of human rights, during the state of emergency.

"More than 4,000 people, including children, were detained under emergency regulations. Most were held without charge or trial or effective access to a court to challenge their detention. Some 980 people arrested during the first five days of the law-enforcement operation in west Kingston were held at the National Arena in Kingston. They included 67 juveniles under the age of 18 and four women."

The document also indicated that during the police-military operation which began in Tivoli Gardens on May 24, last year, at least 54 people, including 28 members of the security forces, were injured.

At the same time, Amnesty argued that the investigations initiated by the authorities around the killings have not yet established facts and responsibilities. In fact, the document stated that information collated by the group's legal experts revealed that investigations have suffered shortcomings in the initial phase which might have compromised the findings.

"Shortcomings in the initial phase of the investigation include the lack of protection of crime scenes and the failure to remove from service the firearms used during the confrontations for ballistic testing."

The report also mentioned a general lack of resources for the investigations, particularly in the Legal Medicine Unit of the Ministry of National Security, staffed by only two forensic pathologists.

Raising Cain

Until someone else suits up who changes my mind, Herman Cain is my favorite...

Herman makes it official.
(Stockbridge, GA) — Business executive and conservative leader Herman Cain announced his bid for the Republican presidential nomination today at a large public rally at Centennial Olympic Park in Atlanta, Georgia.
“After prayerful consideration with my family and closest friends, I have decided to seek the Republican nomination for President of the United States,” Cain said. “I look forward to continuing my travels across the country, engaging in discussions with the American people about the concerns facing our nation and sharing my ‘common sense solutions’ with them.”
